Traffic Snarls, Consumption of unnecessary electricity illuminating parks, shops etc., Street lights kept on during the day, tap waters running unattended, rain water going down the drain, plastics clogging rivers, foods being wasted at parties ...these are all daily happenings which take place in every almost every cities in the world. We notice them and ignore them but these are the things which are going to cost us in the future. I am 42 years old. I can feel the difference. Monsoons bereft of rain. Ice shrinking from the cliffs, food prices increasing because of shortage. I fear for my only child who is just 13. How much he has to struggle to get even the bare necessities when he grows up. In 20 years time, a 1 litre bottle of water would be the most costliest thing in some cities of the world. People will queue up in front of the shops to get some quality fresh vegetables because it would become a thing of the past. I am not frightening anyone, just giving the facts and I have solution for this. Think of your family, think how you can provide food and water for them. If you have 4 members in your family, plant 4 saplings of fruit bearing trees and 4 saplings of vegetables, whatever grows best in your region. If it is mango, jackfruit, banana, pear, guava, whatever or if its vegetables like pumpkin, gourd, eggplant, tomato, lettuce, anything in your kitchen garden because this will give your children something to eat fresh when they are not available at the market or available at a huge price. Harvest rain water as much as possible. Conserve energy. Start 1 hour every week and sit at the porch / verandah with your family with all the lights and fans, TV, Computers turned off. Sit with your family, spend time with them, tell your children stories and tell them that we are contributing by making our mother earth cool. Ask your neighbours to join in a candle light dinner with vegetarian low fat foods which consume less cooking energy, in short, contribute contribute contribute to save our mother earth.
I request people to give their suggestions and more than that, contribute to the cause. Your money is not required, what is required is your effort. Good luck to everybody.
